My ordination came about when my daughter and her boyfriend wanted to be handfasted and wanted me to do it. I was very pleased to be ordained to do this for my daughter and have had a few people contact me about handfasting them and plan to do two of them in the spring of 2011. Am currently enrolled in both the MA of Ministry and Chaplain programs.  Want to serve as a volunteer Chaplain for a non-profit organization, a hospice center and, perhaps, the county jail after I complete both programs.  Have enjoyed learning from the courses taken thus far and look forward to getting my degree and designation.

I sought ordination so that I could bring a spiritually progressive and inclusive voice to the religious (sometimes hyper-religious) realms of Akransas.  Many times I find Christians and other religious/pious people to be judgmental and exclusive in their approach to spirituality and faith.  That is not my understanding of Christ, the Church, the Abrahamic traditions/faiths, or the purpose of any religious faith.  I chose a universalist affiliation because I do not believe that there is only one path to God, righteousness, hope or enlightenment.  I am hoping to expand my ministry into areas of teaching about pastoral counseling (have degrees in Psychology (Clinical/Counseling Emphasis) and Sociology (Social Work Empahsis) and teaching credentials in Ethics, History, Economics, Psychology, Sociology, Business Management, Computer Applications, Health, Medical Assisting/Allied Health, and more.

Reverend Thomas McKissick - Ordained December 30, 2008  I became ordained because I feel I have a spiritual connection with God and I want to share that connection with others, especially those in need of personal and family counseling, with a spiritual emphasis. I am a retired social worker and educator with twenty three years experience. I received my Bachelor of Science in Social Work from San Diego State U and my Master of Arts in Teaching from the University of San Diego. I live in the Bonita area of San Diego County. Classes I have taken with Amy of Universal Life Church Seminary include: Dr. of Biblical Egyptology Master of Historical Jesus Master of Metaphysics I plan to take many more and graduate with a degree from ULC-S Reverend Thomas M.

I became ordained to help a couple of friends. They wanted to get married and didn't feel comfortable doing it in church. I told them one day that I'd always wanted to get ordained and they said if I could figure out a way to do that then they would love for me to do the ceremony. I did some research and found the ULC. I read everything there was about the site and what it took to become ordained and the information I found was great.

After getting ordained on September 12, 2002. I told my friends and I was the minister at their wedding. Since that time I've done several more weddings and spoke at a funeral for a friend's mother. I have a degree from the ULC in the Philosophy of Religion which I achieved September 18, 2003. I've always felt I was a spiritual man and have taken it upon myself to learn about all religions. I believe if you learn about a persons religion then you will have a better understanding of who they are and what drives them.

Dear Amy,

I became an Ordained  Minister in the Universal Life Church because I was a Ph.D. student in Tax Accounting during the time when the Rev. Hensley was in the midst of his Tax Court battles with the IRS.  He was correct, of course, and was eventually vindicated by the justice system.

Since then, His system of branch churches has vastly expanded and become a mainstream institution in American life.  With the opening of the ULC Seminary, I enrolled as a student and began to take its course offerings.
